A parents' guide to meeting with teachers

A parents’ guide to meeting with teachers

Parent-teacher conferences present an opportunity for parents to discuss their child’s progress and to resolve any concerns within the classroom.  The following tips can help you get the most out of parent-teacher conferences.

Prepare yourself:

Talk to your child about what he likes and dislikes in school.  Review  any materials your child’s teacher has sent home.  Write down any questions that you want to ask the teacher.

Bring these along:

Your child’s homework if you have questions about specific assignments. And your list of questions.

Do this at the meeting:

Tell the teacher about your child’s interests, strengths and any concerns that you may have.  Listen to the teacher’s ideas regarding your child including any concerns.   Find out how you can help your child at home.  Make sure you know the best way to contact the teacher and that the teacher knows the best way to contact you.
